Credit Union Assists M-DCPS with Success Academy
South Florida Educational FCU is one of the proud sponsors of the Success Academy, a program initiated by Miami-Dade
County Public Schools (M-DCPS) which targets nine schools that are at risk of being closed due to poor academic scores on
the state mandated Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). The goal of Success Academy is to help students improve
their individual FCAT scores so that the school improves its rating. Four schools (two elementary and two high schools)
are targeted by the State of Florida to be closed unless the school raises their FCAT scores to a "D" by the end of this
school year. Another five high schools are scheduled to be closed by the end of the 2010 school year.
The Success Academy consists of specialized courses that will take place over fourteen sessions in order to help students
who will retake the FCAT. Students are rewarded for attending these sessions (10 of which are held on Saturdays) through
monetary compensation from donations provided by M-DCPS' Business Dade Partners.
In addition to the planned curriculum,
each student will participate in South Florida Educational Federal Credit Union's Financial Literacy Program, "Got Green?"
and open a Credit Union savings account
. Their compensation will be deposited into their savings account at the
completion of the program.
